Superintendent offers PCs in place of Macs
June 27, 2003 - 12:19 PDT
Earlier this month, we noted that Foster High School (Tukwila, Washington) teachers were upset that its school board could refuse to let them accept US$43,000 worth of new Macs the school was recently awarded through a grant program. The King County Journal reported today that after the teachers asked the board for a one-time exemption to the PC-only plan, Superintendent Michael Silver offered to substitute 30 PCs obtained through Boeing -- which annually donates surplus computers to local school districts -- in place of the Macs. "It took about a minute for three Foster High School teachers to decide they'd accept the superintendent's offer of 30 free computers for their classrooms at the start of the school year," according to the Journal's Nora Doyle.
