BuyMusic commercials take jab, mimic Apple ads
July 22, 2003 - 10:57 PDT
As part of its launch today, BuyMusic.com has posted three commercials for its new online music service that should raise a few eyebrows. In the first commercial, rocker Tommy Lee makes his way into a professional photography studio, where he finds a guitar that looks strangely like the one prominently featured on AppleMusic.com. Lee proceeds to smash the guitar continuously onto the floor. The tagline at the end reads, "Music downloads for your PC." The other two ads are very similar to Apple's own commercials for its iTunes Music Store -- normal people singing famous songs, while listening to digital music players in front of a white background. They carry the tagline, "Music downloads for the rest of us."
