Mac OS X Tiger is a copycat, claims developer
June 28, 2004 - 20:53 PDT
While Apple is expecting Microsoft to mimic Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, one developer says the new Mac operating system is the one doing the copying. Arlo Rose is outraged that Apple's new Dashboard feature is so similar to his Konfabulator, which allows quick access to small programs called Widgets. "It's insulting, is what it is," Rose told CNET News.com. "They could have at least offered to work with us or to buy it." He says that if Apple is going to continue to take ideas from third-party developers, the company risks losing its developer community. "Why should developers want to work on their platform?" This, of course, isn't the first time a developer has claimed that Apple stole an idea. Mac OS X's Sherlock search tool received an upgrade in a past version that closely resembled Karelia Software's Watson.
