LaCie introduces 1.6 terabyte Bigger Disk Extreme
July 12, 2004 - 11:55 PDT
LaCie has expanded its line of hard drives with the introduction of the Bigger Disk Extreme, which offers up to 1.6 terabytes of storage with the fastest speeds on the market. LaCie claims that the Bigger Disk Extreme performs up to 50 percent faster than first-generation FireWire 800 drives, "pairing ultimate capacity and throughput to accommodate the editing needs of video and audio professionals." The drive, which sports the same aluminum alloy case as LaCie's other Bigger Disk products, has a built-in RAID 0 configuration that allows for instant high-speed data transfers of up to 85MB/s. It has two FireWire 800 ports and one FireWire 400 port. The Bigger Disk Extreme will be available later this summer with a suggested retail price of US$1,199 for the 1TB and $2,199 for the 1.6TB drive.
