Netflix, TiVo to join forces for movie downloads
September 7, 2004 - 11:00 PDT
Newsweek reports that Netflix and TiVo are set to announce a partnership that will allow subscribers to both services to download their Netflix DVDs directly into their TiVo boxes, instead of receiving them in the mail. The two companies refused to comment, but Newsweek sources said it is a done deal, pending the approval of the TiVo board this week. "In a fast-moving industry, look for the cable companies and Netflix rivals like Blockbuster to quickly strike their own deals and copy the service," the pubilcation notes. "It's proof that TiVo and Netflix are getting back to what they do best: staying one step ahead of the big guys and keeping the world safe for couch potatoes."
