Ranchero releases NetNewsWire 2.0, MarsEdit betas

Ranchero Software has releaesed a public beta version of NetNewsWire 2.0, a major update to its popular RSS newsreader application. NetNewsWire 2.0b3 boasts a plethora of new features including: an embedded browser (read Web pages directly inside the application's tabbed browser); Flagged items (flag items for later viewing); a tool for searching news items; per-feed refresh settings; Smart Lists (like iTunes Smart Playlists, they display news items based on user configurable rules); search engine and script subscriptions; and an option to tell NetNewsWire how long to keep news items.
Other enhancements in NetNewsWire 2.0 include: built-in styles; external weblog editor support (see below); a "Dinosaurs" option (find feeds that have not been updated in a while); subscription sharing; support for Atom feeds; and an option to synchronize subscription lists and the read/flagged status of news items between two copies of NetNewsWire (this feature is still in progress as of this beta).
In addition to the new beta version of NetNewsWire, Ranchero has also made available the first public release of MarsEdit, its new weblog editor that is "designed to make weblog writing like writing email." Replacing the integrated weblog editor of NetNewsWire, MarsEdit 1.0b3 aims to make it easier to post entries to your weblog, offering spell-checking, drafts, multiple windows, and AppleScript support. It is compatible with various weblog publishing systems including: Blosxom, Conversant, Manila, Movable Type, Radio UserLand, TypePad, WordPress, and others.
NetNewsWire 2.0 is a free upgrade for owners of version 1.x. MarsEdit is also free for owners of NetNewsWire. New customers can purchase NetNewsWire 2.0 for US$24.95 and MarsEdit for $24.95 or as a bundle for $39.95.
