New Nielsen/NetRatings multimedia numbers show no jump for QuickTime
June 20 - 14:20 ET  Nielsen/NetRatings has released the latest numbers (PDF) from its online multimedia measurement report, which utilizes a new methodology for establishing market share. In April 2002, RealMedia captured the top spot among home users, reaching 16.23% of the audience. Microsoft's Windows Media Player was second with a 14.41% reach, followed by QuickTime with 7.49%. Among users at work, Microsoft edged out RealMedia for the top spot with a 28.32% reach, compared to 26.99% for Real. QuickTime captured 13.19% -- about the same as it has in previous reports. A recent c|net story claimed that the new methodology, with numbers due out on July 1, would reveal a significant boost in the reach of QuickTime.
