Griffin readies new wireless iPod transmitter
July 17 - 19:30 ET  Hand it to the guys at Griffin Technology, they're always coming up with something neat and different. This time, it's the iTrip, a small FM transmitter that attaches to the top of the iPod and allows music to be broadcast to home and car stereo systems.

While other such products exist on the market, iTrip is different in one very important way: instead of having just a few frequencies to transmitting over, iTrip will have over 100 frequencies to choose from the U.S. and over 250 internationally. Frequencies can be picked manually from a scrolling list shown on the iPod's display.

"The biggest problem with iPod transmitters on the market right now is that they have limited frequencies and people can't find a good frequency that doesn't have interference," said Paul Griffin, CEO of Griffin Technology. "With iTrip, you can pick from hundreds of frequencies in North America and find the best one."

While the present size and design is not final, Griffin told MacMinute it is all but complete. The iTrip does not have its own battery, but instead uses power from the iPod. "It's a very small amount, so iPod owners shouldn't worry it's going to wear down batteries," Griffin commented.

The iTrip will ship in September for US$29.95.
